Robongiers: Day 2
Picking up from where we left off:
Day two of Robongiers has started with a
bang! The schools are all geared up, and the event is on in full swing – with the participants conceptualizing,
formulating and assembling their bots. The competitive atmosphere has never been so intense, for
they all have their eyes on the final prize- the shining trophy for 'Robongiers 2016'. With the theme of the workshop continuing to be 'Inside
the Human Body', the student’s final accomplishment will be their ability to
respond to a range of challenges by creating solutions.
Their current task is to program the bot to
move blocks from the starting point to the heart. Thereafter, the bot is to remove the “stones” from the
lungs and the kidney. The programmed bot must be able to perform these set of given challenges in order to succeed. The bots need to mirror the various functions of the human body with superb precision.
Initial Updates
Pathways
World School-Team 1: The team is in the process of finishing their robots.
Currently they are just tightening the screws and adding final touches. The
team has divided their work equally, and have been able to streamline the
assembly process.
Pathways
World School-Team 2: Pathways World School is lagging behind, and has just
started assembling their robots. Nevertheless,
the team leader remarked that the whole Robongiers event had been a great
learning experience for them.
Pathways
School Gurgaon-Team 1: While testing, their robot self-destroyed by toppling
off the table. Their desperate attempts to redesign the robot were
unsuccessful, and the team is striving to finish their prototype within the
allotted time.
Pathways
School Gurgaon- Team 2: The team encountered various problems during the
testing of their robot, which is why they had to change the design several
times. The team was so absorbed that they didn’t even want to break for lunch!
Salwan
Public School: The opinionated team members argued for quite some time while
constructing their robot. Nevertheless, they are currently adding the finishing
touches to their models and programming.
Excelsior
American School: The only problem faced by the team is the size of their robot.
Their intelligent team leader has taken charge of the group, and is directing
the team members in an organized, collaborative manner.
Tagore
International School: The TIS team is racing ahead of everyone, which is an
indication of their concentration and collaborative skills. They however,
unlike Pathways School Gurgaon, are awaiting the lunch break.
Manav
Rachna-Faridabad: The Manav Rachna team is making last-minute modifications to
their design, after which they intend to test their prototype and fine-tune the
programming.
Sun-City
School: The Sun-City School team is adding loop after loop to their
programming, and their computer screens are a labyrinth of “Move-Blocks” and
connecting lines. The team is working non-stop to ensure that their robot is
perfectly programmed for the challenge.
...
The robot motors
around the table, collecting blocks, with the teams cheering and screaming in
excitement. Cries of “Oh” ensue when the robot swerves off the platform and
falls off the table. The testing table is the arena where the teams are pitted against
each other, it is where the judges are marking off the points as the robots
move around on a specified course. The team members have their fingers crossed,
there is a deathly silence mingled with the thrill of anticipation. The
children gaze expectantly at the judges, perspiration dripping down their
faces. All their efforts are finally going to be culminated today; the
Robongiers fest has been an expression of their creativity, innovation and
imagination. It has pushed the young minds to evaluate a problem and find
practical, rational solutions. But most importantly, it has inculcated in them
a sense of team spirit and collaboration.
Contrary to expectations the excitement is still not over as two teams are tied for the second position - Manav Rachna International School Gurgaon and Team 2 of Pathways School Gurgaon!!
The tie breaker was conducted with baited breath as the two teams went through the drill yet again.........and this time around Pathways School team 1 edged their way ahead......or is it MRIS Gurgaon??? As the tie-breaker was inconclusive, they were both declared the winners for the second position!!!
