The
Rope Runner:
Talk about tricky! The participants are expected to create and
program a robot that will tightrope walk across a LOOOOOONG string, one end to
another, which would result in the team winning the desirable prize of
twenty-five points. If that was not
enough, there are five poles under the string, with single balls nestled in
holdings, on top of each one. If the
robot seizes one, it is an instant five points for the team, so another
twenty-five points, if you are lucky enough to get all of them. And that’s not all! This perilous mission is supposed to take
place in under three minutes! If I would
program a robot to perform such a task, I would need some chimpanzee arms (to
swing and grab the balls), a tightrope walkers dainty feet (to walk the rope of
course!), and some other items that would create something that would not look
like a robot at all! I wish the valiant
team members who dare to attempt this feat truckloads of luck!
The
Explorer:
Slightly tame compared to the previous task. The teams have to create a program that will
have to survive the terrain akin to the Martian landscape that our Design and
Technology lab has created. The robot
must climb up a ramp, explore the tiles and the sand, to find the little box
that holds little components. The
members have to have their robot explore the box from end to end.
Not as difficult as the rope runner, but a
more pleasing option, as (I THINK) it is a little bit simpler.
Those
are our challenges for Robongiers this year.
The teams are required to select only ONE, though I heard some
daredevils plotting to attempt both. May
the best team win!
(A
note: Mr. Dasharha has mentioned something about surprise elements. Beware!)
