Before all the
hungry participants could hurry off to lunch, Mr. Andrew had a design brief
that involved the design process that everyone had learned earlier in the day. The four problems in the brief were:
“Your pet is sad, what do you do?”
“What would you need on Mars?”
“What would you need on Mars?”
“Your grandmother/grandfather cannot keep up
with modern technology, what do you do?”
“What do you do if your school equipment is
too heavy?”
Although, I bet
that though a few people were unhappy to get homework, these ideas would help
many learn how to apply the design process to real life situations. Also, these ideas were total hard-core
fun! Imagine designing your pet a deluxe
apartment! Making yourself a mansion on
Mars! A computer chip which would enable
your grandparents to know about every gadget and gizmo before its even
released! Or even a hover craft that you
could fly from home to school, with your books and you in it!
This brief
doesn’t seem to be just another assignment!
Go on, (quoting Willy Wonka) feed your imagination!
